Regular maintenance and cleaning will not only make your new home more comfortable and efficient, it will also help prolong the life of your furnishings and mechanical equipment (appliances, heating and air conditioner, etc). Doing simple tasks throughout the year can make home maintenance an easier, and even enjoyable, experience. In fact, BBC.com suggests that:

Need help knowing what tasks to tackle? Laura Gaskill, Houzz Contributor, has put together a simple November Home Checklist of 12 items to get your home ready for November and the upcoming holidays:

  1. Decorate for the season naturally
  2. Make a donation to your local food pantry
  3. Schedule a preholidays carpet cleaning
  4. Set up a humidifier – and keep it clean
  5. Check the sump pump (if you have one)
  6. Deep clean the kitchen
  7. Organize closets
  8. Order holiday cards and update your contact list
  9. Check walkways, railings, and stairs for winter safety
  10. Keep furry friends safe
  11. Have trees trimmed
  12. Clear rain gutters and downspouts one last time
