A Newcomer’s Guide to Living in South Jordan Utah

Father and son sitting on dockAs of late, more and more families are looking to Utah as the perfect place to call home. Because of its low crime rate, low cost of living, high employment rate, and well-rated schools, the Beehive state continues to rank higher and higher with young families.

While the larger cities, such as Park City and Salt Lake City, are more well-known, some of the offshoots of those large cities are of the safest, friendliest communities. Located south of Salt Lake is South Jordan, a family-friendly community built with traditional values in mind.

Here is what a newcomer needs to know about living in South Jordan:

1. Communities:

South Jordan is full of community-oriented neighborhoods, like the homes for sale in the Daybreak community. These communities are geared to offer familial environments where both parents and kids alike feel safe and welcomed. Many of these communities have town events and festivals in order to bring the neighbors together, creating a warm atmosphere. Additionally, these communities often have parks and other amenities available for families, giving the children a safe place to play.

2. Activities

South Jordan has Oquirrh Lake, which is a local hotspot for most in the community, especially during the summer. While many simply enjoy sitting by the lake and relaxing with friends and family, there are areas for building sandcastles, kayaking, and fishing. For those who enjoy the serenity of the lake, there are even some homes that border one side of it, which have a lovely view of the lake year around.

While the communities in South Jordan have community centers outfitted with art classes, cooking classes, basketball courts, and other gym related equipment, there are also plenty of outdoor activities available, including hiking, biking, and jogging. Plus, there are often festivals happening, especially during the summer, some of which include charity runs.

3. Cost of Living

While Utah as a whole has a low cost of living in comparison to other states, such as California, Florida, and New York City, among others, South Jordan in particular is reasonably priced and growing fast. Not only are there beautiful new homes and remodeled homes available, but each and every neighborhood has special amenities that raise the value of the area without raising the cost of living. While there are employment opportunities immediately in South Jordan, Salt Lake is nearby, which offers residents quite a few opportunities.

4. Education

With Utah being rated one of the most educated states, it is no surprise that there are plenty of schools available within South Jordan. In most cases, the schools are located close enough that kids can walk to school without the need for carpooling or a school bus. Moreover, the schools have been ranked highly, ensuring that every child is getting the best education possible.

In addition, Utah is home to several universities and trade schools, many of which offer significant tuition breaks to Utah residents.

5. Entertainment

With Salt Lake just miles away, there is never any shortage for entertainment. While Salt Lake offers the city nightlife, South Jordan offers classic familial entertainment, including artisan restaurants, community events, and regular concerts.

As one of the friendliest areas, anyone looking to move to South Jordan will feel at home.
