A single-family, detached house typically has more square footage than a townhouse, which may mean more bedrooms and bathrooms. Just the thing if you have a growing family. Single family homes are designed to accommodate one owner and be used as a dwelling unit designed for occupancy of one household. Detached homes typically appreciate over time. Though the amount depends on location and the market, most owners see their value increase as long as they maintain the property. Townhomes 

With a townhome, you are connected to the homes around you by at least one wall. Typically, they are narrow, vertical properties and have two or three levels with their own entranceways in the front and back. You may own the land that the house sits on plus there may be a small lawn and/or a patio or courtyard. A townhouse is typically smaller than a single-family house and offers less square footage. They tend to be less expensive than a detached home and work well for those who don’t like to do a lot of maintenance or yard work.
